Should I Write it in Blood?

My editor and I are interviewing She Wants Revenge on the 5th at their very small show at the Glass House in Pomona. That is actually the first place I ever saw them and they were the support band for the Lovemakers, who have really gone nowhere since their first album. I think that SWR has really progressed in popularity in a very short period of time. I recently spoke to an unnamed friend who is also in a band and friends with them who stated that they aren't that huge. Probably true outside of LA. I did see them in London awhile back and there was a decent crowd. I mean, So. Cal. is their territory, so I would expect their hugest following here. I just see them as being more mainstream than most of the other bands I would consider to be good LA bands.

The big controversy is this: no one I know likes SWR. I am the only person other than maybe 2 of my best friends who do like them. I should say that none of my friends who are in the music business like them. Why? I have no clue. When I was first introduced to their music it was prefaced with the ubiquitous, "They are Interpol wannabes." I hear this with any band that may have some resemblance or nuance that maybe remotely sounds like Interpol. People do this because they know the 'Pol is my favorite band. I don't hear any connection at all from SWR and Interpol. None. Perhaps Justin and Paul both have this "distant" and rather emotionally void voice, but other than that, I see nothing.

I will admit, I love them. I think their music is fun. Yes, I know, the lyrics are pretty much the same in every song and they aren't very deep. But that is why I have Interpol. It is all about dancing and the beat. It isn't about anything more than one-night stands and making out on a dancefloor and heartache. Simple really. I had a friend in PDX recently who did this little imitation of them and I have to admit it was funny because he just repeated the same things: hey, let's dance . . . there's a tear on your face . . . let's kiss . . . I want you . . . you look hot on the dancefloor . . . let's smoke . . . let's dance. And, I had to crack up (and I was a little tipsy at the same time) because it really is true. But that doesn't make me like them any less.

Plus, Adam is truly a nice guy. He's made it being a nice guy. I can't say much for another member of the band who I had a bad experience with, but that is a long story. And, of course, I have the biggest crush on Thomas, the guitar player. Ah . . . Australian boys drive me crazy. He can look forward to having me in front of him again like all the old shows. I'm sure he misses my sweet face enamored with him :)

Here is there newest song--the video is a homage to the Hunger. Some hot sex shit in it. I don't know why they are going in this direction, but I like it.
